May is Bike Month
Cyclists from throughout the Sacramento region will come together next month to celebrate Bike Month, including the Capitol Bike Fest, May 9th from 10:00am – 1:00pm, on the West Lawn of the State Capitol. Thousands are expected to attend, and Central Valley Rails to Trails will have an information booth. We hope you will stop by to visit with our volunteers.
Our friends at the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) plan to be very active in May, encouraging cyclists to ride to work and to participate in special rides to commemorate the occasion. They need volunteers, so check out their schedule of events and help out where you can.
Cyclists can also visit the website for May Is Bike Month to enter the Two Million Mile Challenge. Log your mileage for the month and make a statement to public officials that cyclists need safe routes to recreate and commute to work. This site also features one of our favorite chefs – Adam Pechal, who competed in the first TrailFest Chef Challenge. According to his Facebook posts, he loves to log those miles on his bike! Look for happy hour specials for bike riders at his restaurants -Tuli and Thir13en.
