Trail Crossing Over Hwy. 99

Posted on November 25, 2013 in Featured, Latest News

Central Valley Rails to Trails is so pleased to see that the City of Elk Grove will be adding to their trail connectivity with a freeway pedestrian overcrossing.

We also would like to point out that CalTrans announced a section of Hwy. 99 will be closed tonight to work on the overcrossing. Construction work is ongoing between Laguna and Elk Grove Boulevards. Traffic delays are expected for north and southbound directions.   Be patient Elk Grove – it will be worth the temporary inconvenience!

Estimated Work Schedule: Tuesday, November 26 from Midnight to 5 a.m.

According to their public works web page, “The Elk Grove Creek Trail Crossing at State Route 99 Project … will construct over a half of a mile of Class 1 bicycle and pedestrian trail along Elk Grove Creek from Laguna Springs Drive to Emerald Vista Drive, including a 1,281 foot long bridge over SR99. Construction is expected to occur over an approximate 10 month period (200 working days) beginning in May 2013 through February 2014.”

Providing a safe crossing over Hwy. 99 is a project that many Elk Grove residents have wanted and worked for over the past decade, including several supporters of our proposed Central Valley Rail Trail.  Once we get back on track, this will provide opportunities for our users to travel west to link with other trails in the Delta area.
