TrailFest 2013 a Great Success!
The Central Valley Rails to Trails Foundation is very appreciative of the hundreds of guests, sponsors, vendors and artists who came out to support TrailFest 2013. We raised a significant amount that will sustain the all-volunteer CVRTF through the next year while making a substantial donation to Project R.I.D.E.
This year, we are donating a new tool for Project R.I.D.E. to use for their equestrians who have difficulty communicating verbally. They let us know that there is a software called ProLoquo To Go that can be run as an app on an iPad that is mounted on the front of the saddle. Instead of giving a voice command, the rider hits the button for Walk or Whoa, or other customized buttons to improve communication with the guides walking alongside. This will mean that autistic riders can be relieved of that frustration that is felt when they can’t converse with their instructor, while providing the satisfaction of the cause and effect of signalling the horse to act.
We can’t wait to purchase the equipment and see the results! Thanks to everyone who participated in TrailFest, making this donation possible.
